A lot of different weather will move across the Southeast and Georgia Monday into Wednesday. A powerful low will develop in the gulf along the coast and move into and across south-central GA on Tuesday. This is a complex weather system, so let’s break it down for you.

***FIRST IMPACTS
>MONDAY NIGHT INTO TUESDAY MORNING: NORTHEAST GA
[FREEZING RAIN & SLEET]
Freezing rain and sleet is expected to begin across Northeast GA on Monday evening into Tuesday morning from around 8pm to 5am. The freezing rain and sleet is expected to change over to all rain just before sunrise as slightly warmer air moves in.
—IMPACTS—
ICE & SLEET : 90%
ACCUMULATIONS : TRACE TO .10″

***SECOND IMPACTS
>MID MORNING INTO TUESDAY AFTERNOON: NORTH & CENTRAL GA (METRO ATLANTA)
[HEAVY RAIN]
Heavy rain will spread across much of North & central GA during the day on Tuesday as the low moves into SW GA. 2.5 to 3.5 inches of rain is possible with this event. Some flash flooding may be possible but not right away as the ground is still dry. Some 4″ rainfall amounts in isolated spots will be possible.
>>>TRAVEL ALERT: Do not drive into areas where water covers the road.

>LATE TUESDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING: FAR SOUTH GA
[TORNADOES]
There is a slight chance of a Tornado or two across far southern GA as the low moves into the state on Tuesday. The chance of a Tornado is 20%. Any tornado would be brief and small. An isolated severe thunderstorm is also possible with damaging wind the main threat. there will also be isolated thunderstorms as far north as Macon and Columbus but no severe weather is expected at this time across Central GA.

***FINAL IMPACTS
WEDNESDAY: NORTH GA & METRO ATLANTA
[SNOW]
On Wednesday looks like some moisture will wrap back around this system in the cold air and could bring us a chance of flurries and snow showers. there is a 50% chance of this at this time across North GA and metro Atlanta. Any major accumulations (1″ or more) should be in the mountains. there is a slight chance of a trace accumulations in the metro Atlanta area northward. We should all see some snow before this storm ends Wednesday afternoon. Temps may not get out of the 30s Wednesday afternoon.

(STORM WATCH ATLANTA) ATLANTA GA
11:27 PM ET FRI 11/22/13
BY: DAVID DUTTON

It is going to be a very interesting week across the Southeast US next week. We are forecasting a strong storm will develop in the gulf Monday, move across SE GA Tuesday and up the east coast on Wednesday and Thanksgiving. It could make it a holiday mess for travel from Atlanta to New York City.

[WHAT WE KNOW]
It looks almost certain that Georgia, including Atlanta, will see some heavy rain on Tuesday. 1 to 2″ of soaking rain is possible across almost the entire state as the system moves across. Poss. 3″ of rain in a few spots. No major flooding issues are expected at this time. It will be very cold over the next 7 days and windy from time to time with some stronger winds possible Mon-Wed.

[WHAT IS STILL UNCLEAR]
We may see a few tornadoes Tuesday afternoon in far SE GA as the low tracks along the gulf and moves across N FL or S GA. Right now, i have placed far SE GA in a 30% chance of a tornado within 50ARCTIC_BLAST_ICON mls of a location.
If the low tracks a little farther north than expected now, portions of south-central GA could see some severe weather.

Also, on the backside of this system as it begins to move out, another band of presip will move in. This could be in the form of snow. Computer models are all over the place with any accumulations so we wont even mention them right now, but models still insist on some snow for North GA and even some in North-Central GA. Will continue to monitor.

Stay with us all weekend and all next week for further updates on this developing weather situation.
